This means you may have to scrape the stick a few times to wear through the varnish to ignite. This is normal. Our ferro rod is covered with a protective laquor to prohibit rusting. Scrape down the same line each time using the ferro rod to keep as much of the protective varnish on your rod as you can. Keep the OPP storage bag for the tinder rope.
